ANYTHING BUT BUSINESS AS USUAL: LEARNING THE ROPES AT KLINGELNBERG

Getting to know the company, expanding professional skills and demonstrating team spirit: In early August, 15 young people from Germany’s Bergisches Land region kicked off their careers in an unusual way at Klingelnberg.

At Klingelnberg, there is more to it than "just" hiring new employees – it’s about training and mentoring up-and-coming professionals from the region. The company wishes to provide opportunities, and 15 young people from the region seized them during the current training year. From August 1 through 9, the eight industrial/technical trainees, the five future merchants and the two double major students had the opportunity to learn about the different departments within the company and get to know their future supervisors during an introductory event lasting one and a half weeks. The new trainees then turned the information that they had gathered into a company presentation, which they gave in front of their future colleagues and supervisors. To make it even easier for these fledgling professionals to get started at the company, the curriculum featured various training courses, including an introduction to the most popular software programs such as SAP and Microsoft Excel. The technical program was rounded off by a first-aid course, since personal development is high priority at Klingelnberg as well as technical qualifications.

The organization of the event was entrusted to six trainees in their third year of training at Klingelnberg – co-workers whose experience puts them squarely in touch with this exciting yet challenging stage of life. This was a deliberate choice on the part of Klingelnberg, which was aimed at ensuring that the event addressed the specific needs of the young target group.
Of course, in addition to the technical aspects it was also about giving the young coworkers-to-be an opportunity to get to know each other through team-building activities designed to foster a spirit of unity and cohesion. The group therefore competed together with their trainers during an evening of bowling at the “Bowlingcenter an der Bahnmeisterei” in Radevormwald and demonstrated genuine team spirit at a local ropes course and climbing park (GHW Klettergarten Hückeswagen).  Their efforts were subsequently rewarded with a barbecue evening, which was also attended by all of the other trainees at Klingelnberg GmbH.

Training for life – another opportunity will be available next year. Approximately 15 trainee positions in the industrial/technical and commercial areas will be available again at Klingelnberg in 2017. The company will also be offering a limited number of double major study places with a technical or commercial focus.
