Klingelnberg at the EMO 2017 (hall 26, stand B82): Impressing with innovation at the world’s leading trade fair

The innovations presented at the EMO by mechanical engineering company Klingelnberg represent flexibility and productivity, combined with the advantages of Industry 4.0. The latest developments of the Speed Viper cylindrical gear generating grinding machines, the TM 65 complete processing machining center and the P 65 precision measuring center, which has undergone further development, are evidence of this. Klingelnberg also has the powerskiving of cylindrical gears on the C 30 spiral bevel gear cutting machine and SmartTooling "up its sleeve" for the trade fair.

Following a four-year hiatus, EMO, the world’s leading trade fair for metalworking, will once again be opening its gates in Hanover, from 18th to 23rd September 2017. Klingelnberg is using this forum to launch a comprehensive innovation offensive in the fields of cylindrical and bevel gear technology, as well as precision measuring centers.

Fit for Industry 4.0: The new Speed Viper with Closed Loop technology for high-productivity generating grinding
The Höfler Speed Viper 300 generating grinding machine with automation and the Speed Viper 180 are among this year’s highlights in the field of cylindrical gear technology. With its latest innovation of the Speed Viper platform, Klingelnberg is presenting itself as a true pioneer with regard to Industry 4.0 – and it will be demonstrating the cost savings and efficiency gains that are possible as soon as the potential of digitally-supported processes is fully exploited. With this new development, Klingelnberg is celebrating a market premiere: new construction, a completely revised, ergonomically optimized design and with Gear Operator a newly developed operating concept focusing on a simple, innovative operating philosophy.
Modifications and corrections no longer need to be entered manually, but are automatically loaded using Gear Operator. Klingelnberg is setting a new standard with regard to machine operation presenting this operator guidance via a modern 19-inch touch screen display.

The all new Speed Viper is designed for high-productivity and robustness of the grinding process, and therefore meets any requirements of today´s large-scale production: short set-up times, minimum cycle times, innovative software solutions and digital process control in a closed loop system.

TM 65: Complete processing from rod to complex gear body
It is not just the all new Speed Viper that reflects this year’s trade fair motto of the EMO “Connecting systems for intelligent production”: With the new Höfler TM 65 complete processing machining center, the system provider is impressively showing how process integration in production and measuring technology can be successful in gearing system machining.
With the TM 65, Klingelnberg now has a new machine that can produce gear bodies and gearing systems of any complexity directly from rod material – regardless of whether it is bevel gears, cylindrical gears or internal gears.

P 65 – precision measurement with optimized design
Versatility and the idea of process integration were also the main focus during the further development of the P 65 precision measuring center, which has a new, ergonomically optimized design. Here, Klingelnberg has consistently continued down the route of complete measurement in production: All measurement tasks on axially symmetrical components are possible on one device without additional re-chucking and set-up procedures. With the P 65, the focus is on the high-precision 3D coordinate measurement, as well as the form and surface roughness measurement. Visitors to the trade fair can also look forward to new products in the field of “optical measurement”.

C 30 flexible production machine: Bevel gear cutting and powerskiving of cylindrical gears on one machine
The further development of the Oerlikon bevel gear cutting machine C 30 also takes into account the demand for systems that are as flexible as possible for the production of gear components: the range of application of the bevel gear cutting machine has been extended to include cylindrical gears. In this way, it now provides cylindrical gears with internal and external gearing by means of powerskiving, as well as the known high-performance processes for bevel gears. In addition to the flexible machine basis, other advantages have taken effect such as deburring in the machine, integrated automatic workpiece loading and the closed loop for powerskiving. In accordance with the basic idea of the digital twin for production, which plays an important role in the context of Industry 4.0, main and secondary processes are being designed and optimized in a virtual environment.

With SmartTooling, Klingelnberg is introducing a digital identification system for tools and chucking materials, and is consistently incorporating the C 30 further into the subject area of Industry 4.0. It is a case of designing the processes which are currently still carried out manually to be more efficient using software support – this creates the basis for traceability and simplifying the set-up process. The additional data which is now available then provides the basis for creating new process optimization potential. The goal is to proactively support customers in reducing costs and increasing the quality of production.

Visitors to the EMO can obtain information about Klingelnberg’s entire innovation offensive in hall 26, stand B82. The on-site team is looking forward to interesting “shop talk” and stimulating discussions.
