STRENGTHENING SKILLS – KNOWLEDGE IS GAINED WHEN SHARED

Klingelnberg offers a comprehensive range of training and continuing education opportunities to assist its customers in building their employees' skills. Most of these take place in the Zurich Training Center at the Group's headquarters and are designed for a broad range of employees. In 2013, Dominik Widmann also assumed responsibility for the Training Center in his role as the new director of the Technology Center.

At its Training Center in Zurich, the Klingelnberg engineering firm has been offering a wide array of seminars for at least ten years, to assist customers in building their employees' skills. In June 2013, the new director of the Technology Center, Dominik Widmann, also took charge of the Training Center, adjoined to a demonstration showroom with an extensive array of machines. This allows practical learning to take place directly on the machine installations.

In these training courses, the company, a leader in gearing technology, transmits its knowledge directly to its customers: "Our seminar leaders are all application engineers from our Technology Center," explains Dominik Widmann. "They are the ones who develop the products in our firm and are therefore always on the cutting edge of technology. Our goal is for the seminar leader to act as a continuous point of contact for the customer during their work together – this allows us to create a solid foundation for our relationship to the customer during the training phase itself." The company draws upon a pool of 15 highly qualified experts to serve in this capacity.

Applied knowledge transfer: keeping an eye on the "big picture
Extensive technical know-how, training materials that are always state-of-the-art and a pleasant learning atmosphere thanks to small groups of no more than eight participants – these are the characteristics features of all Klingelnberg training courses. "And as a system provider, we are able to impart an extensive wealth of knowledge," explains the Technology Center Director. "We continually keep tabs on where we are in the process chain – this view of the total system is a recurrent theme in our entire training offering." Accordingly, participants in Klingelnberg seminars rate the learning effect highly across the board. Course content is tailored to customer's needs and realities at the same time. If desired, for example specific problems are used as training examples and solutions are worked out directly for specific customers – an added benefit beyond pure knowledge transfer.

External on-site seminars well-received by customers
The courses at the Zurich Training Center are extremely popular. That's because an external continuing education opportunity has two advantages over in-house training: "Our participants are always telling us how important it is for them to be able to focus fully on training in an atmosphere that's conducive to learning, separate from their daily work routines," reports Dominik Widmann. "Another important aspect is the sharing of technical knowledge with each other. Particularly in our T courses, customers come together with similar problems and interest in similar solutions. This creates synergies that can be put to good use. We end up with some stimulating discussions, and our customers take advantage of the opportunity to network with each other."

Diversified portfolio for all target groups
The course offering is clearly divided into practical and theoretical courses: In various practical courses, Klingelnberg offers operators and installation technicians broadly based training and continuing education opportunities in the production technologies of cutting, grinding, lapping, testing, measuring and blade grinding. These courses are 70 percent practical in nature.
Also in high demand are the technology courses, which present an extensive range of basic and detailed knowledge using a three-phase modular system. These courses are focused on bevel gears and the KIMoS (Klingelnberg Integrated Manufacturing of Spiral Bevel Gears) calculation software. Theory T1 is intended for production planners and anyone just getting started in this area. T2 and T3 are designed for developers who work with KIMoS. These four-day seminars are offered in German and English regularly 12 times per year in the Zurich Training Center. Other courses are held on request – and, if desired, on location at the customer's facility.

The training and continuing education courses offered by Klingelnberg are part of the comprehensive range of services this family-run business uses to strengthen its role as a technology leader. "The fact is that by sharing knowledge, we gain knowledge," affirms Dominik Widmann, summarizing the company's basic approach to business.
